Cold Smoke Powder Week

So far we are not guilty of false advertising.  The first week of the 2011 season has delivered cold smoke every day.  We started out with a nice dump of low density snow with no wind on Friday and Saturday.  Unfortunately, everyone could not fly in to the Abbey until Sunday morning due to fog in Golden.  Once they got here, the skies cleared and it cooled down to -20.  We spent three days skiing the south slopes in perfect powder and cold temps.  We skied King's Backside, Schooner South Bowl, Pillow Talk, Burnt Offerings, Chokestone Gully, the Waterfall, Grizzly Trot, Little Ahab.  On Thursday, it started snowing again so we spent the day skiing Blue Danube.  Everything below tree line is in great shape.  The snowpack is very solid so we could ski all of the steep lines and boulder drops.  Also, the Mainmast path has slid, so it makes a beautiful, open run into the valley.  Today we have another 15cm of snow overnight and a snowy forecast for the day.  We'll be in the Woodlot and on Blue Danube.  I'm looking forward to it!
