Battle Abbey Back Country Lodge has a Saturday exchange time of 2:30 p.m (MST).
In order to prepare and be organized for this timing, please arrive at Alpine Helicopters Inc. (directions below) between 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. (MST). This is something to consider if you are traveling from Calgary or another destination, as in recent years with heavy snowfall, highways can be closed due to avalanche control or serious accidents. Please check drivebc.ca to ensure your trip to Golden is a success.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our staff and their job is to help you get organized. Alpine’s parking lot can be very busy, so once you have unloaded, please move your vehicle over to their secure parking area. Leaving your vehicle keys with our base crew is a strong recommendation, as the parking compound is plowed on a regular basis.
Luggage carts are available to bring your gear inside, and our staff will instruct you on where to pile it as everything has to be weighed. You will be required to read, understand and sign our waivers, and also watch a safety video before climbing aboard the helicopter. Alpine does not have space or want the responsibility of looking after items you will not be taking with you (i.e. extra skis, ski bags etc).
There are two flights heading into the lodge so you will be assigned a flight number, and ask that you stay close by so we can be ready to go. Baggage weights per person; excluding skis and poles must be kept to 40lbs or 18kg. Flight times are roughly 50 minutes round trip, depending on the weather conditions.
It is very important that you understand the cost of your ski space includes (2) 212 helicopter flights. If the weight of either yourself or your group booking is over the allowed amount, and an additional flight is required, Laughing Bear Adventures Ltd. is not responsible for that cost. On average, depending on weather conditions a second #407 flight charge can be anywhere from $800 to $1100 CAD. Please store ski bags in your vehicle, as they do not load well in the helicopter basket. Strap your poles to your skis to ensure a safe flight, and try to avoid extra large bags (i.e. hockey bags) as they are extremely hard on our staff to load in and out of the helicopter.
Weather permitting you can expect to be back at the hanger anywhere between 3:00p.m. to 4:30p.m. on the returning Saturday. This information may be helpful if you are catching a flight or receiving other forms of transportation. The staff for your upcoming trip would like to thank you for choose to ski with us, and if you have questions or require further information please do not hesitate to call.
Thanks for your cooperation, and see you at the lodge!
