Battle Abbey Back Country Lodge is remote and perched at tree line in the middle of dramatic Selkirk ski touring terrain.
The lodge can accommodate 14 guests and runs off of solar panels, wood stoves, and a quiet running generator on stormy days. Five different incarnations have occurred over the years that now allows for over 3,000 ft of comfortable living space. Our boot room has a moderate ski workshop and benches allowing for plenty of room to get ready. The main floor is where all the action happens, and guests can relax in our living room complete with yoga mats, sore muscle rollers, stereo, games, and an array of musical instruments…include a guitar. If you want to kick back with a book and forgot one, take advantage of our library and then belly up to our handcrafted bar that has all the fixins for a keg operation. We don’t provide the suds but can help you in ordering 30 L kegs from our favourite folks over at Begbie Brewers in Revelstoke.
The world wide web is available but on a very small bandwidth, and we run on 120 volts of sunbeam kisses to our solar panels. We have the ability to charge various devices but ask that once juiced up, please unplug to conserve energy. Inside the lodge, we offer a smoke-free environment. A short distance from the front door you will find two happy composting toilets for daytime use. Evening stargazing or trips to the loo; we can provide you with comfy lodge boots in various sizes.
Foodies will love our cuisine as over 1,000 lbs of food is flown in every Saturday, and our chefs are full of razzle and dazzle. So if you think you are going to go home with a smaller waistline…think again. Dinner is served in our spacious dining room complete with 180-degree views of our gobsmacking backyard. We can accommodate most dietary concerns if given ample notice, and kindly ask that you reach out to us if you do have a restriction we need to know about.
So after our guides have pumped you full of fresh air and chefs replenished your gas tank, the upper level of the lodge is where you will count sheep while the moon is up. A night toilet is handy and available for the midnight dash. Down comforters, bedding and towels are provided. On the lower level, you can step out of a nice hot shower and dry off beside our cozy fire, so don’t forget to bring your lodge slippers…
We work hard at minimizing our footprint by recycling all plastics, cans, glass, and compost goes back into gardens throughout the Columbia Valley. Spent wine bottles and crushed beer cans also get boxed up, and the money donated to helping our local SPCA. This would also be a good time to mention that we appreciate guests bringing some sort of lunch container helping to cut down on a considerable amount of you guessed it…plastic bags! We thank you for considering this option.
