The Gear List

This is our basic gear listing. If there are items you don’t see listed or are unsure of, please drop us a note so we can give you a hand.

Ski Gear

  • Backcountry touring skis or split snowboard (make sure bindings are in working order)
  • Poles
  • Ski or snowboard boots
  • Climbing skins
  • Collapsible avalanche shovel
  • Collapsible avalanche probe
  • Digital avalanche transceiver (smartphone with search app not acceptable)
  • Daypack (35 – 40 litre)
  • Water bottle
  • Tea thermos (optional)
  • Lightweight climbing harness (not provided, and yes, we have glaciers in our terrain)
  • 1 locking and 1 non-locking carabiner
  • Ski crampons (optional…but always a good piece of equipment)
  • Repair kit (spare binding, screws, spare bale or cable, spare basket, duct tape, pocket knife/leathermen, ski wax and scraper)
  • Goggles and sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and lip protection
  • Electrolyte drinks (optional)
  • Drones/UAV’s are not permitted at Battle Abbey without prior approval from our office (please refer to our ‘Policies’ webpage for more information)

Ski Clothing

  • Base layer tops
  • Base layer bottoms (long underwear/tights)
  • Ski pants
  • Waterproof & breathable ski jacket
  • Soft shell jacket
  • Thin wind shirt or jacket
  • Fleece jacket
  • Down or insulated jacket/vest
  • Ski socks
  • Warm hat(s)
  • Ball cap with neck coverage
  • Gloves/mitts
  • Thin touring gloves
  • Scarf/neckwarmer/buff
  • Blister and foot care kit (tape, bandaids, anti-blister material, insta-heat pads)

Lodge and personal items

  • Comfortable lodge clothing
  • Slippers or indoor lodge shoes (we have hut boots to get you back and forth to the outhouse)
  • Personal toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc) (we have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash at the lodge)
  • Camera and battery charger
  • Extra batteries
  • Headlamp
  • Lunch bag/container
  • Reading material
  • Canadian cash to purchase souvenir items – optional
  • Personal alcohol – please consider canned beer and be mindful of weight restrictions
